The downtown arch bridge hit a major construction milestone in July 2026. Three more years of disruption across Edgewater, Omni and Overtown come with it.
Miami Today reported on July 29, 2026 that crews completed the largest foundation pour on the I-395 Signature Bridge. Per Miami Today, βAll major aspects of the project continue moving forward, with completion expected in late 2029 at an estimated total cost of approximately $866 million.β One correction worth stating plainly: a search result elsewhere claims a late-2027 finish. Both sources I verified say late 2029, so late 2029 is the date to plan around.

The engineering
- A foundation 120 feet long, 50 feet wide and 16 feet deep. It required 3,672 cubic yards of concrete, delivered by 408 concrete trucks and placed by four concrete pumps, with a fifth on standby, per Miami Today.
- More than 30,000 feet of cooling tubing. Crews circulated chilled water from a large industrial chiller so the concrete would cure properly.
- A 1,025-foot, six-arch structure. Florida YIMBY reports it spans NE 2nd Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard, with the largest arch rising about 325 feet and spanning 650 feet.
- 1.4 miles of highway. The broader reconstruction covers I-395 between the Midtown Interchange and the MacArthur Causeway, with three through lanes in each direction plus connector ramps serving I-95.
What it means on the ground
The Archer Western and de Moya Group joint venture is building it. Disruption is already routine. During this window, southbound North Bayshore Drive was closed between NE 14th and 13th streets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, July 31, and again from August 3 to 7, 2026. Expect more of the same for three more years, concentrated in the blocks nearest the alignment.
My read
If you are buying in Edgewater, Overtown, the Omni district or the Arts and Entertainment District, price three more years of construction into the decision. That means lane closures, noise and a daily commute tax with nothing to show for it in the near term. The upside is real, and it is dated. When the arches are finished, the elevated barrier that has cut those neighborhoods off from downtown is replaced with open space underneath. That is a 2029 story, not a 2027 story. A buyer holding five years captures it. A buyer holding two years pays for it and leaves before the payoff. I could not confirm which ramps actually opened this year, and I do not know whether the $866 million figure includes recent change orders, so do not treat that number as final.
